Causes and Handling of Lithium Battery Bulging
Causes and Handling of Lithium Battery Bulging
Lithium battery bulging occurs due to gas accumulation from internal chemical reactions, leading to battery expansion and deformation. It
may cause leakage, fire, or even explosion, making safe handling of a bulging battery crucial.
Bulging in a lithium-polymer battery is related to factors such as quality, usage methods, and environmental conditions. Poor packaging
during production will allow air moisture to enter the cell, causing electrolyte decomposition and gas generation. Excessive water content
in the cell or failure of the electrolyte can also produce gas. Cell corrosion, surface damage, impact, short circuits, and overcharging/over-
discharging also lead to bulging. For example, a short circuit caused by contact between positive and negative electrodes, or excessive
charging/discharging due to an abnormal protection board, can result in severe cell bulging.
When dealing with a bulging lithium-polymer battery, isolation and safety measures are essential. First, isolate the battery in a safe,
controlled environment. Wear protective gear such as gloves and goggles, and ensure the operation area is well-ventilated and free of
open flames. Use a fireproof container for transportation, and store the battery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat
sources. Handle and transport a bulging battery individually to prevent mutual interference between multiple bulging units. Additionally,
utilize specialized battery recycling programs or centers, as these institutions have professional capabilities to safely dispose of the battery
and prevent environmental pollution.
As a lithium battery manufacturing enterprise, A&S Power attaches great importance to environmental protection, adheres to quality
standards, and develops lithium batteries with high safety and sealing performance. These products provide reliable power for equipment
and promote the green development of the industry.
